What the Climate Exposes

Why Most Teak Furniture in Bali Doesn't Last

Bali's tropical climate is brutal on furniture: high humidity, salt air, and intense UV destroy poorly made pieces within months. Many local workshops skip the steps that matter most: proper kiln-drying, solid wood construction, and professional-grade finishing. The result? Warped doors, cracked tabletops, and faded finishes before your first guest checks in.

The First Failure

Green Wood, Not Kiln-Dried

Most Bali workshops use air-dried or fresh-cut wood. Without proper kiln-drying, moisture trapped inside the wood expands and contracts with temperature changes, causing warping, splitting, and joint failure within the first year.

The Second Failure

Veneer Over Particle Board

What looks like solid teak often isn't. Thin veneer glued over MDF might fool the eye, but Bali's humidity peels it, swells the core, and leaves you replacing furniture meant to last decades.

The Third Failure

Rush Jobs, No Quality Control

Small workshops prioritize speed over craft. Uneven sanding, inconsistent staining, misaligned joints: these shortcuts are invisible on delivery day but painfully obvious within weeks.

We engineered around all three: every board kiln-dried to 8 to 12 percent moisture, solid teak with no veneer and no MDF, and a finishing process we have refined for 29 years.

The schedule

What actually takes the time

Two things happen before anything is built, and neither runs on a clock: we talk through the project, then we draw and price every piece. Production starts when the 50% deposit clears. From that point the schedule is measured in weeks, and manufacture is nearly all of it.

No dimension runs under the first two stages, because there is no clock on them yet. They move at your pace, not ours. The gate is the 50% deposit, and everything to the right of it is measured.

Small runs finish sooner. Doors, full fit-outs, and the weeks either side of Eid run to the top of the range, which is why the overall dimension carries a tolerance rather than a promise.

Notes
  1. Consult

    Unscheduled

Floor plans, room counts, finishes, quantities. WhatsApp or email, whichever suits the site you are running.

  2. Design & approve

    Unscheduled

Every piece is drawn to your dimensions, then priced off that drawing. Nothing is cut until you have approved both.

  3. Manufacture

    5 to 6 weeks

Solid teak, kiln dried, cut, joined and hand finished in the Solo workshop, in the finish you chose.

  4. Deliver

    Within a week

Our own truck out of Solo, the ferry across, then delivery anywhere on the island, two to three days on the road once it leaves. Installation can be arranged, timed with your builder.

The Five Finishes

Here they are on real furniture.

Natural adds no colour, just a smooth sanded surface. Classic Natural carries more depth, with no paint and no stain. Brown is a warm coating. White Wash is pigment sanded back. Recycled Antique Teak is a different wood entirely. Every one is tuned before production, lighter or darker, to your order.

Browse the range, and ask about any of them directly.

Manufacturing typically takes 5–6 weeks from order confirmation. Delivery from Solo to Bali takes 2–3 days by truck. For projects still under construction, this timeline works perfectly, start your furniture order 2 months before you need it, and everything arrives when your build is ready for fit-out. We coordinate delivery timing with your construction schedule.

Every piece we make is built to order, so you can specify exact dimensions, choose from our 5 signature wood finishes (Natural, Classic, Brown, White Wash, or Recycled Antique), and request completely original designs. Send us a reference photo, sketch, or floor plan and our team will create detailed specifications and a quote tailored to your project.

No strict minimum. We work with villa owners furnishing a single property through to hotel developers ordering hundreds of pieces. That said, factory-direct pricing is most advantageous for larger projects, full villa furnishing packages and commercial fit-outs offer the best value per piece.

You pay the factory price rather than a showroom price. A Bali retailer carries rent, staff and their own margin on top of what a piece cost to make, and we are the workshop that makes it, so that layer is not in your quote. How much it saves depends on the piece, the finish and the quantity, which is why we put the real figure in writing when we quote your list rather than advertising a percentage.

We build in three timbers: solid teak, recycled teak reclaimed from old structures, and suar for wide slab tops. Every piece is solid through, with no veneer and no MDF. Every board goes through our own kiln-drying facility to reach 8–12% moisture content, which is critical in Bali’s tropical climate. We also have strict internal quality standards built over 29 years: multi-stage inspections at every production step, traditional joinery techniques (mortise-and-tenon, dovetail, dowel joints), and a thorough finishing process from 80-grit to 320-grit sanding with sealer coats between each stage. Most local workshops skip these steps, that’s why their furniture warps within months.

Yes. We deliver directly from our Solo factory to your Bali site by truck, anywhere on the island from Seminyak and Canggu to Uluwatu, Ubud, and beyond. Optional on-site installation is available. Our team will coordinate timing with your builder or project manager to ensure furniture arrives exactly when your space is ready.

We encourage it. We invite every client to visit our factory in Solo, Central Java. You can see our timber selection, kiln-drying facility, finishing workshop, and warehouse firsthand. It is the best way to understand the quality difference and see your furniture being made. We can arrange a full tour and help with local transport.

Most furniture sold in Bali is assembled quickly with air-dried or green wood, minimal finishing, and basic construction. It looks fine in the showroom but falls apart in Bali’s humidity. We do things differently: kiln-dried solid teak, traditional joinery, a multi-step finishing process refined over 29 years, and quality checks at every stage of production. We own the entire process from raw timber to final delivery, no outsourcing, no shortcuts. That’s why our clients’ furniture still looks the same years later.
